Description
Another challenging year of funding cuts has prompted my call for a 1.98% rise in the policing portion of the council tax for 2015-16. This amounts to an annual increase of £3.42 for the average Band D household.

Description
This past year has been hard for policing with challenging cuts putting greater demands on the fight against crime. However, the officers and staff of Nottinghamshire Police have adapted well to the plans put in place for dealing with the funding situation, doing all they can to ensure that the force's standards remain high.

During the past week, Nottinghamshire Police has faced intense scrutiny following the accidental discharge of a firearm in the vicinity of a group of schoolchildren and parents visiting Force HQ on Thursday, October 30.

It's natural to fear change but sometimes the best triumphs are born out of doing things differently. As far as policing goes, it's been a tough week and I'm under no illusion that things could get tougher in the months ahead.

Description
By the nature of my job I'm in the fortunate position of being able to meet new people every day to find out what it is they like and dislike about local policing. There are times when much wider reach is needed, when key plans or strategies are on the table, and this requires a more formal engagement process for collecting and recording public feeling.

I'm very conscious that whenever we report positive news about falling crime rates, this brings anything but comfort to those members of the community who have suffered or lost at the hands of criminals.
