Comprehensive Spending Review - Response from Paddy Tipping

Paddy Tipping, Nottinghamshire’s PCC, said: “I very much welcome the Chancellor’s announcement that police budgets will not be cut over the course of this Parliament, but we need to look at the detail.  I look forward to further discussions with Ministers before the provisional settlement for the police grant is announced just before Christmas.

“It’s clear that the amount of grant available may be reduced in order to develop innovative practices and new technology and I’m pleased that we are very much part of that discussion and debate.

“I also think that extra resources for vulnerable women is to be applauded, as indeed is reform of the outdated prison and court systems.”

Background information:

  • Chancellor George Osborne announced today that the government will protect overall police spending in line with inflation.
  • Additional funding will be provided for forces who have strong proposals to support efficiency and reform.
