Inspirational name sought for pioneering new sexual violence hub

Survivors of sexual violence and interested stakeholders are being invited to help name a new specialist support facility for victims across Nottinghamshire.

The Sexual Violence Hub will launch in January alongside a new therapy service for all adult victims of sexual violence in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire including men, women, members of the LGBT+ community and those from a BAME background.

The new resource, which has been jointly commissioned by Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner Paddy Tipping, Bassetlaw Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), Nottingham and Nottinghamshire CCG, Nottingham City Council and Nottinghamshire County Council, will open the door to a wealth of services including specialist therapeutic support and counselling and mental health services and will centralise help to ensure survivors have a smoother journey to recovery.

The pioneering service, which will be delivered by Nottinghamshire Sexual Violence Services (Notts SVS), now needs a name and project leaders are inviting survivors themselves – and key stakeholders – to take part in a survey to help generate ideas.

The survey asks participants whether they would prefer a discreet name or whether they would like the title to spell out clearly the purpose of the service.

It also gauges support for titles according to themes such as colour, flowers, trees and inspirational words such as Oasis and Chrysalis.

Paddy Tipping said: “This pioneering new service has been developed with help from survivors themselves. At every stage of the construction phase, we have been carefully guided by the thoughts of those who have suffered sexual violence and have really listened to what it is they need. It is very important to all of us that the title reflects what already is a service designed by survivors and those closely involved in recovery support.

“We’re really looking forward to launching in January and improving support for future victims. An inspirational service needs a powerful and innovative name and we look forward to receiving suggestions.”

The contract for the hub commenced on October 1 and will run until 31 December 2023.

The new service is anticipated to be up and running on 1 January 2021 and will worth £2.9m over the contract period.
