Improving the response to domestic violence and abuse

Domestic abuse is a very significant issue facing our communities

and the Commissioner (Paddy Tipping) and his Deputy (Emma Foody)

are continuing to do all they can to tackle it

They have just published a new paper setting out the current domestic abuse position in Nottinghamshire, along with suggested recommendations for action.     The paper builds on local Joint Strategic Needs Assessments and the Police and Crime Needs Assessment to further our understanding of what’s happening in relation to domestic abuse in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.  It brings a fresh perspective on a whole system approach: we can’t consider one element of our response around domestic abuse without thinking about the wider system, as all elements depend on each other.

The paper has been developed with national, force and provider data, and with input from specialist domestic abuse leads in local authorities.  It’s a final consultation draft and Paddy and Emma welcome your comments and questions.

The Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner will be taking the report to city and county strategy and third sector groups for feedback and comments over coming weeks.  In the meantime, any other feedback, questions and comments on the report can be sent to Nicola Wade in the OPCC at the following email address: nopcc@nottinghamshire.pnn.police.uk.  We particularly welcome feedback on the recommendations for action.

The consultation will be open until midday on Wednesday 11 November.  After this the PCC and his Deputy will consider feedback and then publish a final version and an action plan to take forward the recommendations.
