Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner

Paddy Tipping Nottinghamshire's Police and Crime Commissioner explained that during the election campaign he had promised that he would review the decision to disband the mounted section if he was successful in his bid to become the first Commissioner for Nottinghamshire.

Mr Tipping said: "As I promised, I have asked the Chief Constable to prepare a report that will enable me to review the decision to disband the mounted section, including the costs of reinstating it.

"I've also asked him to consider the operational value of the unit and to see whether there's the possibility of sharing the horses with other police forces.  I've also asked the report to include details of any sponsorship opportunities which may be available for the mounted section.  I will then be able to make my decision taking into account the value of the section and the associated costs."

Mr Tipping said that he expects the report to be finished by Christmas, which is before he will need to finalise his first budget early in the New Year.
