PCC responds to Public Accounts Committee report

Notts PCC Paddy Tipping Responds to Public Accounts Committee report into the Financial Sustainability of Police Forces

Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner Paddy Tipping said:

“This report provides further confirmation, if that were needed, that all police forces are underfunded.  It highlights the significant challenges that policing is currently facing and I urge the Government to accept its conclusions.

“Police and Crime Commissioners have made it clear that policing is under huge pressure; that the demand and complexity is increasing, and that policing needs a fairer funding formula.

“It’s clear that the Government doesn’t understand the consequences of the cuts to police funding and as a result that means that tough choices and difficult decisions are having to be made.

“It appears that the Home Office doesn’t know what it is doing.  There is a great deal of uncertainty surrounding police funding which needs to be addressed with some degree of urgency and I was disappointed that there was no money highlighted for policing in last week’s budget.

“I know that the public want to see more support for policing and I will continue to work with the Home Office and colleagues to achieve the best possible outcome.”
