Dozens of grassroots community groups, businesses and volunteers turned out for a multi-agency event to help shape the direction of crime prevention over the next 12 months.
Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner Paddy Tipping invited a host of voluntary and non-profit organisations, as well as key safety partners from the City and County, to a Community Stakeholder Event at the Indian Community Centre Association (ICCA) in Carrington, Nottingham.
The event informed organisations of the key successes in 2019-20 including enhanced partnership working which is improving the way police respond to crime and support victims.
The PCC is keen to exploit further opportunities to combine resources and expertise to tackle crime and invited community groups to share their views as he prepares to refresh his Police and Crime Delivery Plan priorities for 2020-21.
“Nottinghamshire is home to a diverse range of communities and cultures and it’s important that the people who live in them have the opportunity to share their views and contribute to the decisions which affect their lives,” said Mr Tipping.
“Community feedback enables me to make evidence-based decisions which improve life for local people and ensure problems and emerging issues are prioritised according to need and urgency.
“I greatly respect the work that goes on at a grassroots level to protect people from harm. This event raised a number of important discussions focusing on diverting young people from serious violence, how we can increase inclusion and join up our efforts, among other issues. This information is currently being collated and will help influence my priorities for the year ahead.”
During the event, attendees were presented with a review of the achievements and key successes in 2019-20. This was followed by a presentation on the headline findings of the recent Strategic Needs Assessment – a research project which looked at the current and future demands of policing to guide commissioning decisions on new services and resources - before table discussions got underway asking for suggested priorities for the year ahead.
