Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner Appointed

Emma Foody

Nottinghamshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Paddy Tipping, has appointed a Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner to support him in key areas of the role.  The new Deputy PCC, Emma Foody, attended a virtual Confirmation Hearing by the Police and Crime Panel on 1 June 2020 when the appointment was approved.

Speaking after the meeting Paddy Tipping said: “Although we have always provided a strong response in support of those affected by domestic abuse, I will be launching a new enhanced plan in the Autumn.  Emma’s previous experience means that she is ideally placed to lead in this area of work.  I will also be introducing a new package of initiatives to address sexual violence and Emma will take over responsibility for the successful delivery of these new projects.

“In addition, it’s clear that the Criminal Justice System is facing a challenging period.  It is important that PCCs have a clear and informed voice regarding the way forward so Emma’s hands-on experience as a magistrate will prove invaluable.”

He went on to explain that it was expected, as the country moves into Covid-19 recovery phase, it was likely that the workload for PCCs would increase, including a requirement at national level.  “I am determined that Nottinghamshire is well-represented at all levels and to ensure that, I needed to increase the capacity of my office,” he said, “As my Deputy, Emma will support me in my work for our local communities which will enable me to undertake more work for Nottinghamshire on national platforms.”

Emma Foody is currently the Regional Director of the Labour Party and an active magistrate.  She has extensive stakeholder, voluntary sector and criminal justice experience and has also worked for the National Housing Federation and the North East Ambulance Service.

Emma Foody added: “I am delighted to have been appointed Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner for Nottinghamshire.  I look forward to using my skills and experience to work to eradicate sexual and domestic violence in all forms across the city and county. It is a devastating crime that can destroy lives and I am so pleased Paddy Tipping and Nottinghamshire police are treating the issue with the severity it deserves.”
