Statement from Paddy Tipping, Nottinghamshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner
“Following the Prime Minister's statement last night, I've been in discussions with Home Office ministers and officials.
“I've made it very clear that Nottinghamshire residents believe that COVID-19 and its accompanying restrictions have been badly handled. Put bluntly, information and plans have changed on an almost daily basis.
“Nevertheless, I have also made it clear that as in earlier this year Nottinghamshire people will follow the instructions. Clearly, it's in everyone's interests to act responsibly and respectfully. As a matter of urgency, I've asked that clear guidelines are issued for next Sunday's Remembrance Day events. It's important to mark it in the best way possible.
“I've also asked for extra short-term funding for the police so that they have the resources to tackle things like the irresponsible house parties for example.
“Finally, and most importantly, I've demanded a clear map and timetable to come out of this week's new lockdown. I'm keen to ensure we all have the best and safest Christmas we can and that next year is much better than current one.”
