Commissioner completes first Community Walkabout
Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner Gary Godden engaged with members of the public in Hyson Green earlier this week during the first of his Community Walkabouts.
The Commissioner covered a large part of the area alongside Police officers, PCSOs, local councillors, a Community Protection officer and a housing officer, in order to gain an understanding of things that may need addressing.
Some of the issues picked up on the day included increased litter and graffiti at Maple Street skate park, rough sleeping at Church Rock cemetery, as well as a cafe on the Forest Recreation Ground which had been the victim of antisocial behaviour after hours.
The aim of the Community Walkabouts are to ensure the Commissioner gets information and feedback from community representatives that help inform his Police and Crime Plan as well as the work of the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Nottinghamshire.
A key part of the Commissioner’s role is to represent the public in ensuring Nottinghamshire Police works efficiently and effectively and facilitating a collaborative approach with partner agencies, to prevent and respond to crime and antisocial behaviour as well as supporting victims.
Commissioner Godden said: “Getting out and about and engaging with the public is a key part of my role in making Nottinghamshire a safer place for all.
“Hearing first-hand from people who live in areas such as Hyson Green, as well as stakeholders who work there, helps paint a clearer picture as to what is needed in terms of resources and support.”
The next two Community Walkabout locations are currently being planned with Commissioner Godden due to head to St Ann’s on Wednesday September 4 and Newark on Tuesday October 22.
