Safer Streets delivers remarkable crime reductions

6 May 2025

Safer Streets interventions across Clifton and Bulwell have delivered outstanding results with significant drops in antisocial behaviour and incidents of violence against women and girls reported.

The investment in the area has included new HD-CCTV cameras, new automatic number plate recognition cameras, environmental improvements and an innovative youth listening project facilitated by Nottingham Trent University to positively change the attitudes of young people.

In Bulwell Town Centre, data from the intervention period (April 2024 – March 2025) shows that antisocial behaviour decreased by 35% compared to the three-year baseline.

Notably, noise-related antisocial behaviour fell by 78%, alcohol-related incidents decreased by 50%, and youth-tagged incidents dropped by 34%.

Vehicle crime also saw a marked decline, with a 35% reduction, while public place violence against women and girls was reduced by an impressive 47%.

In addition, criminal damage and public disorder incidents decreased by 38% and 14% respectively.

Neighbourhood Policing Inspector for City North Paul Ferguson said: “Our focused efforts in Bulwell are delivering tangible results.

“With a 35% reduction in antisocial behaviour and a significant drop in vehicle crime, it’s clear that our targeted patrols and preventative measures are enhancing community safety.

“These figures reflect the hard work of our teams and the positive impact of our collaborative initiatives.

“We remain dedicated to engaging with local residents and partners to further reduce crime and create an environment where everyone feels secure.”

This work comes after the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Nottinghamshire has invested £333,000 in Nottingham City as part of the latest round of Safer Streets.

Due to a change in regulations only allowing for a maximum of three bids, which would have excluded the city. The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Nottinghamshire committed the additional funding for projects in Nottingham City to ensure the people of Nottingham don’t miss out.

Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner Gary Godden, whose Office directly funded the Safer Streets interventions in the city, said: “The remarkable reductions in antisocial behaviour, vehicle crime, and violence against women and girls in both Bulwell and Clifton demonstrate the strength of our Safer Streets interventions.

“By focusing our efforts on hotspots and deploying targeted measures—such as enhanced CCTV, safe points, and proactive patrols—we are not only curbing crime but also restoring community confidence.

“Our work here is a testament to what can be achieved through collaboration and a committed focus on public safety.”

Clifton has experienced similarly positive outcomes with antisocial behaviour declining by 35%, with significant drops in noise-related and youth-related incidents.

Residential burglary in the area decreased by 44% and public place violence against women and girls saw an impressive 75% reduction during the intervention period.

Neighbourhood Policing Inspector for City South Steve Dalby said: “In Clifton, achieving a 75% reduction in public place violence against women and girls is a truly remarkable outcome.

“This dramatic decrease underscores the power of our targeted interventions and proactive community engagement.

“By boosting our surveillance and maintaining a visible police presence, we send a clear message that violence will not be tolerated.

“Our work in Clifton is not only protecting individuals but also restoring confidence in our communities, and we are committed to building on this success.”
